Japanese Embroidered Pillow Cover
I bought this unusual landscape embroidered vintage piece from a collector in Oysterville, OR of all places. I am guessing it is from the 60's-70's.
I was intrigued by the embroidery technique and thought the landscape design was beautiful. It was a gift to someone by the maker as it was originally found in a frame, which preserved it for so long. I hand-washed it carefully and a few bits of thread were coming unravelled. After much debate I decided to turn it on the reverse side as it still looked wonderful and was perfectly intact. I thought it would hold up better as the stitches were tighter and neater on this side. I put a simple, coordinating linen on the reverse side.
The colors of the thread are black, green, teal, white and gray against a turquoise ground.
This is a one of a kind piece.
